The Federal Trade Commission is making an example out of Google by hitting them with the largest fine ever for an FTC order’s violation. FTC has fined Google $22.5 million for violating the confidentiality of people who used opponent Apple’s Safari web browser, even after assuring not to do so.
Google indeed committed this mistake by telling the users of the Apple’s Safari that they would inevitably be excluded from such tracking because Safari’s default settings purportedly banned it on Macs, iPhones and iPads. This led Safari users to consider that they had automatically chosen out of the advertising tracking cookie but that wasn’t the case because Google was often times evading Safari’s default cookie-blocking policy.
FTC averred that the search giant had violated an October 2011 settlement which banned them from misrepresenting the extent to which consumers can control the collection of their information.
“The record setting penalty in this matter sends a clear message to all companies under an FTC privacy order,” said Jon Leibowitz, Chairman of the FTC. “No matter how big or small, all companies must abide by FTC orders against them and keep their privacy promises to consumers, or they will end up paying many times what it would have cost to comply in the first place.”
Although the search giant has now agreed to pay for what he did, but no matter how many millions it pay to compensate for breaching the law, but still it would be like a drop in an ocean for a company like Google who posted the profit of $2.8 billion in the last quarter that ended on 30th June.

The security inemoverpmts in Safari Beta 3.0.1 include correction for a command injection vulnerability, corrected with additional processing and validation of URLs that could otherwise lead to an unexpected termination of the browser; an out-of-bounds memory read issue; and a race condition that can allow cross-site scripting using a JavaScript exploit.可是我本身就是英文的系统,还是显示不了中文~~~~ 郁闷了~~~~ >_
